These little villages survived on farming tomatoes especially there once was a large tomato factory on the island olives pressing them and selling the oil or selling them whole. Fruit local wines and nuts such as almonds and walnuts were also exported. Dairy farm products from the goats especially feta cheese and the milk and meat from the cows. Chickens were also bought and sold and their eggs too. It was a simple life. Children helped in the fields from an early age planting the crops and working helping out on the farms.
The village people would get about by donkey from one village to another or by foot. It wasn t until the island began to develop into a popular tourist resort that slowly slowly the farmers and their children began to fantasise of building apartments and hotels opening restaurants and cafe bars and living out the dream.
