You can find this delightful forest quite easily if you follow the main road (there is only one) from Kos Town down to Kefalos.  It is approx. 30 minutes away from the Town.  A little bit further on from the airport, look out for a turning on the right hand side,  if you’ve got to the small dual carriageway you’ve gone too far!

It’s an ideal spot for picnics and barbeques, shaded and cool, if you wish to escape from the heat of the summer.  The air is scented with sweet smelling pine trees and wild flowers that grow in abundance in these woods.  There are walks that take you across bridges and small streams.

Listen to the peacocks that surround you (make sure you have some extra food for them too), with their loud caw-caws.  Perfect for an adventure outside, children enjoy collecting pinecones, searching for peacock feathers and watching the wild tortoises that roam freely.

There are organized picnic areas in Plaka Forest, tables and benches where you can sit, and areas available to grill your food.  Don’t forget the charcoal (which most of the large supermarkets on the island sell)!

The best way to get there is by hiring a car, although some of the Jeep Safari and other excursions stop there too.
