The Archaeological Museum of Kos, can be found in the Main Square of the Town (Eleftherias-Freedom Square), look for the tall Turkish Mosque and the inside Market and you will see the steps to the Museum opposite.
The Museum is well worth a visit whilst you are in Kos. It features and exhibits many statues and artwork,as well as mosaics from The Roman times, Hellenistic Periods and general Ancient Classical Greek Civilization.
Probably the most popular and famous of these statues are the ones of -The Head of Alexandra The Great and the Demeter.
Hippocrates, The Goddess Aphrodite, Hermes and many others, far too numeral to mention here. Some of these statues were found hidden in the Ancient Odeon in Kos, and recovered after the major earthquakes that shook the island. Others are displayed in the Museum in Rhodes.
A remarkable collection which will take you back in time and let you experience significant eras in Greek, Roman and Hellenistic civilisations.
WE ARE SO SORRY TO INFORM YOU THAT THE MUSEUM OF KOS WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO RENOVATION AND RESTORATION WORK IN 2012….
